In the kingdom of Nockloft, the mighty Steedriders ride bravely atop oversized woodland mounts. Holtean Orbuck is the only Nockloftian who lacks the ability to avow to a steed, despite his longing for adventure and glory. He spends his days dreaming of more, painting stained glass windows in the Nockhold tower.
He witnesses a miracle when a young girl, Celestine Silvan, avows to a wild steed without training or protocols. Rumours grow that this heralds her as a returned Falnir — warriors of myth who could mentally command any living creature, and even gift abilities to others. Holtean makes it his mission to find Celestine, but he's not the only one in pursuit of her.
Together with her mentor, the mysterious woodcrafter Wyatt Orbuck, the trio sets off on a quest beyond Nockloft's borders to get the girl to safety. Their adventures will push Holtean towards the devastating truth that he'll never be able to avow, no matter how strongly he believes — though his destiny will be greater. It is tied to the fate of an enemy queen, Lady Deoroth of Baakhorn, who amasses her armies across the continent, moving to destroy Nockloft and its mighty Steedriders for good.
